PRESIDENTS NOTES
Art Capability and Versatility for All

Though August and September are the lazy, dog days of summer, that image couldn't be further from the case here at Suntan.

The Don Vista is full to the brim with an array of exciting artwork.  The Textures and Patterns members show looks terrific.  Mariann Yatsco's fiber piece was awesome as was Marian Krauthamer's
photo and I was thrilled to see some names that were new to me.  The Craftsman Gallery is constantly evolving.  Scott Durfee, new to Suntan this year, has given the space a facelift.  It looks great.  Nina Ost has organized the gallery sitter instructions into a more user friendly format.

Next door, Libit's work in various watermedia welcomes you to the gulf side of the building. George Avery is generously sharing a sand cast bronze, that he painstakingly created many years ago.  Its in the Parkside Gallery where watercolors by Kathy Bara are the featured art.  Upstairs, Terry Denson has a killer presentation of watercolor and on your way to check out Gay Womack's impressionist oils in Meeting Room C, you can treat yourself to a collection of Doug Land's drawings.  If you haven't seen the DV this month, try to make it a point to check it out.  You will not be disappointed.  Be sure to come before the September 4th exchange.

Lists of classes and upcoming workshops are posted at the Don Vista.  The treasurer reports that revenue from these activities has increased six times the amount realized last year.

Suntan's Board of Directors continues to work on a proposal to the city that will more solidly define the  relationship between Suntan and the City of St Pete.  We will be reminding the city officials of all the good things that Suntan volunteers do for the benefit of the community and expressing our profound gratitude for all that the city and the community have done for us. Suntan is truly fortunate to be at the Don Vista.

Suntan has made a proposal to the West Coast chapter of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths soliciting their help in creating a metal smithing lab in the loft over the gallery.  Open studio time would be available at a nominal fee and workshops will be planned.  Board member, Kevin Ritter is spearheading this project.

The membership committee is correcting and updating the mail list.  If you are a snowbird, please make sure that we have dates on file for each residence.  This will save Suntan the fees for returned mail as well as guaranteeing that the newsletters are delivered in a timely fashion.  Speaking of snowbirds, we miss you!!!
