Torch fired/kiln fired
vitreous enamels. Cheryl Anne works with vitreous enamels using torch and kiln firing techniques. She uses copper as her base. She will shape and clean the copper using heat and tools. Then applying the vitreous enamels on the copper with shifters or rolling method. For beads or small focal items she will use her torch to heat the vitreous enamels. The torch will be between 1400-1500 degrees which allows the vitreous enamel to bond on the copper. When working with larger pieces she uses a kiln. Usually the kiln is at 1465 degrees and several coats of vitreous enamels will be used on the front side and back side of each piece. After applying and heating the vitreous enamel onto the copper, she anneals the objects. Then comes cleaning and polishing. The final part of the process is to combine the vitreous enamel components with other materials to create her lovely art pieces. If you are interested in seeing first hand this process please check out her You Tube Channel Enameling Videos which can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdSJxTt4b2IqvGIMh1ItMHw/videos
